One of the principle features of The Saltburn School on the Saltburn landscape is the manner in which it was cut into the side of the hill rising out of the new Saltburn. The substantial bank running from the school to the old caretakers cottage lies adjacent to the main Whitby Coastal Road.
As part of our involvement with the first annual Saltburn Arts Fair we trialled the installation of a single piece of sculpture by Brotton based artist William Harling. Due to popular demand the exhibition was extended and placing Bill’s sculpture each day created a real draw into the building.
We are intending to introduce three to five permanent places for the exhibition of sculpture along this bank. We’ve been working towards this by removing the seven sycamores planted in the 1980s to make way for the disabled pathway and intend to put in place at least one picnic point.
