Artist in Residence

Emily Hesse

The Saltburn School is an intrinsic part of the history of Saltburn and the wider East Cleveland area and when we were approached by local sculptress, Emily Hesse, who works principally with found objects, her proposal for creating a residency programme with her as our first “artist-in-residence” was centered on working with the wealth of objects that had been left within the school.

Her initial twelve month residency will allow her to develop her practice and meet an editions commission of her piece “In Crowds“, which was recently selected by Charlotte Bonham-Carter as part of the Saachi Online Gallery’s 100 curators 100 days project, for a new boutique hotel in Switzerland. Her residency has already produced numerous works and we look forward to her future works.
