The Youth Hostel
Aims and Vision
Since the closing of Saltburn’s Youth Hostel over a decade ago the availability of good quality, affordable accommodation for walkers, cyclist and other visitors to Saltburn has been sadly lacking. The Works @ Marske Mill is committed to providing some type of hostel accommodation on the site to meet this crucial need.
The Kitchen and Dining Hall Block has been identified as the most appropriate place to site this hostel accommodation. Due to the specialised skills involved in the running of hostel accommodation and the variance from the objects of the charity the following management options have been considered,
- SCAA refurbishes the building and fits it out with fixtures and fittings suitable for hostel accommodation as currently acceptable within the market for such accommodation and SCAA establishes a trading company to manage and run the hostel.
- SCAA refurbishes the building and fits it out with fixtures and fittings suitable for hostel accommodation as currently acceptable within the market for such accommodation, then invites tenders to lease the licence to operate the hostel.
- SCAA invites tenders to refurbish the building and fit it out with fixtures and fittings suitable for hostel accommodation as currently acceptable within the market for such accommodation. The winner of the tender will operate the hostel with appropriate staff and management systems.
SCAA currently favours Option 2 and intends to proceed with this process, with the hostel opening in phase three of The Works @ Marske Mill.
